GCS is a unique place to work, as our employees are encouraged to take a paid ½ day off each month to work and give back to our local communities. This month Lisa continued her work as a Life Skills instructor at the Women’s & Children’s Alliance (WCA). The WCA has a series of Life Skills courses that are a requirement of the short-term residents at the WCA as part of the path to freedom from domestic violence to break the cycle of violence. Lisa has developed a class curriculum to educate on the methods to save money by couponing. The organization offers a local class “If These Walls Could Talk” which Lisa attended to learn more about the critical issues of our local community with domestic abuse and sexual assault. Lisa knows it is a blessing to be able to give back to individuals in need and appreciates that GCS supports the staff to give their time. She will also be working in the farms this summer, harvesting and planting, for Create the Common Good, another local organization focused on training refuges in food preparation and culinary arts.
